TX update: Bugs and Crack
I cracked my Mamyia 7 (camera) and flash last night. Crap!
Also, It was too cold and wet to camp, so I stayed in a shitty motel. I woke up at 3am with a terrible nightmare -- bugs were crawling all over me, and eating me alive. I instantly went into a panic and thought I was actually being eating alive -- not a far stretch considering the place I am staying.
The camera still works. Just doesn't focus properly. And the cable release cracked off and is jammed all up in it. I was having a blast shooting though. So I kept on it. I hope the shot was worth it. The flash works, but the hotshoe is completely gone. So I can still attach a sync cord, or hand hold it. Not so bad. Gotta send the 7 off to Mamiya -- not looking forward to that bill.
Otherwise, I'm doing great. Enjoying sleeping in a bed, and got some film back today. I'm excited about a few things. Some early images were just studies -- some of which I was hoping would be finals, but it's back to the beginning for those guys.
I'm in TX for about twelve more days. I'm slowly figuring out my place in it, and I'm looking forward to the coming week -- and CA!

The finger, the camera, what’s next?! Knock on wood. I don’t know if you got my last e-mail, might have been blocked. California sounds like it will be fun. Hope everything is good.
I owned one of the lovely cameras a couple of years ago.
I had to send it in for an alignment and to check the electronics.
Mamiya USA has a flat fee.
$400
Tim,
We may be in B-F Idaho but there is a repair guy who works thru the Camera Corral, Jeff Coulter. He is amazing! Shawn Gust can vouch for his ability to bring cameras back to life. I will forward the 7's condition to him and see if he can give you a sight unseen estimate.

hey Tim,
sounds familiar. i broke my 4x5 this weekend up in Prudhoe Bay. broken. dead. i had to limp through the last two days with my rig held together by duct tape and a big ass hose clamp. lol. classic stuff. ug. fark.
keep on keepin' on..
i love how you can break your camera and still seem postive in your blogs. But once you're mind or spirit's been busts...instant change in blog mood. I got your postcard from TX. LOVED IT!!! It got through last week. The cold weather keeps draggin it's feet out here. I'll talk to you soon buddy!
I fell into the savannah river once while shooting, and everything got in except my arm and the camera, which I managed to get up onto a concrete ledge while I fell. hah.
