Kody

Kody, Midnight Milking, Boonville, New York, 2007

Last week I received some tragic news about a dear friend in Boonville, NY. During the time I was in NY, I stayed with the Beasock Family for three or four weeks. The time spent with them and in NY was some of the most productive, inspiring and enlightening times I had over the course of the entire trip.

I cannot fully express how amazing the Beasock Family was. They took me into their home and cared for me as if I was one of their own. We had a sit-down dinner almost every night. I went hunting with them, carved pumpkins on Halloween, and witnessed their immense love for one another first hand.

Sadly, their youngest boy, Kody, and his brother Christopher, were in a terrible dirt-bike accident on Memorial day. Kody passed away instantly (he was only twelve), and Chris is in critical condition in Syracuse. I want to, and could, write an entire thesis about those two boys and their love for each other and the outdoors. But right now I can't. I love those boys, and that family very much. And I am still at a loss for words.

*Taken from a post about the Beasock Family, dated November, 3, 2007 (click HERE for post):
"I don't have a favorite, but Kody reminds me of myself at his age: Loud, obnoxious, and hilarious, with a slight touch of brilliance--if I may say so."

Your pictures of Kody are posted all over the school in memorium. When this accident first happened I Googled Kody's name looking for information and your site was there with pictures of Kody and Chris horsing around at the pond and your wonderful words about this family that I didn't know but now feel like I do from your pictures and writings.

I wish you could be here this past week so you could see how this small town has been grieving yet is pulling together in the face of this tragedy. It could be a book in itself. I would like to say I am sorry to you as well bc this family was, if for a brief time, your family too.

Hi Tim,

That is such tragic news. It is always sad when anyone passes but ever so much more when it is a young person with the world in front of them. My heart goes out to the boys family for their loss. Your photo of Kody is brilliant and I am sure will be cherished by all that knew him.

Count yourself lucky for having undertaken your journey so that you were able to know him and share that knowledge with the world.

Sincerely,

Keith

You see your project has become greater than yourself in ways unimaginable... You set out on a mission, you meet people, You and your project become larger than what you start out as.... your family extends beyond its original space to encompass all those who have shared and experienced life with you on your journey...

Such a wonderful blessing Kody's family has been given by you, "your" documenting the way of life for this family not knowing that your work would become greater than just a project about Booneville... but a project about life and the moments that pass with time, as we all will at some point.... A reality that will no longer exist without photographs, memories and words... In your project Kody will live on, as will your project! Blessings to you, and to Kody's family.

Tradegy and Blessings exist in the same space!

just a girl with a camera, creating the things that are greater than myself as well!
